It Begins Again (New Year)
© by GirleyGirl

We will start anew.
Paint on our smiles,
extend our hearts toward one another,
endeavor to achieve the kind of
cohesion that eluded us in the not
too distant past.

What is it about starting anew
that fills you with such unbridled
energy and optimism,
as if the mistakes and the sadness of
yesteryear are so far gone?

My love, those mistakes and that sadness filled our
little world only days ago.
They are not so far gone.
But you will insist on newness and trying,
and I will to continue to appease you,
as I did in years past.

For, unlike you, I have not changed.
