Day Seven.

Math Dance

At this interesting intersection of
resolve and resignation,
we begin to waltz.
You are careful not to care
and I am determined not to dance.
But you want to care, and I want to dance.
Yet two and two will never
equal five, honey.
I cannot add your love
when you subtract your heart
while the rest who adore you multiply
and we divide divide divide…
Forget the binomials, love,
and dismiss your talks of hypotenuses and 90 degree angles.
I don’t want your metric system and
I don’t want reminders about blasted, everlasting logic.
(“We’re like math, baby, and there’s always just one answer.”)
If you must count,
let it be our steps while we’re dancing.
